Local League Operations
The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh has over 350 members in the greater Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area. Every member joins three organizations: the local league, the state league and the national league. Each league is responsible for league activities at that level. All levels are responsible for working with the government at that level and all require funding. Each level is tremendously important to the overall good that the League does, but we only have one membership fee. We support the state and national organizations with an assessment called the Per Member Payment. After we make these payments, our league has very little left. The local League pays for its administration and programs primarily through contributions from members and non-members. These contributions are critical to the continued success of the LWVPGH. Our office in the Koppers Building, downtown Pittsburgh, has a part-time manager and is used by the membership and its committees for meetings, work and storage space plus maintaining the computerized and hard copy records of the League. For most of us, the local league is The League. And we keep it alive and well with the extra money we contribute every year.
The Pittsburgh League is a 501c3 non-profit and all payments and contributions are deductible for US Federal Income Tax purposes.
Memorial and Honorarium Fund
The League of Women Voters is an organization of women and men dedicated to making democracy work for all citizens. If you wish to honor the achievements of a league member or wish to remember someone with a memorial gift, consider a donation to this fund. Gifts to this fund are dedicated to building the financial reserves of the Greater Pittsburgh League which are needed from time to time to fund current operations or to meet special needs. All gifts are tax deductible for Federal income tax purposes. In the case of personal memorial gifts, when the name and contact information is provided, the League notifies the honored person or estate that a gift has been received in their name. The current members are very appreciative.
