Election Protection is a national, nonpartisan coalition that includes the LWV. Poll monitors are the voter’s first line of defense and help ensure fair elections. They answer voter questions and act as eyes and ears to make sure voting proceeds without incident. They report issues—a polling place that hasn’t opened, excessively long lines, a voter who wasn’t given a provisional ballot, a question about signage or polling place accessibility, or whether voters can take selfies at the polls. Election Protection staff and attorneys address these issues, sometimes going to court on Election Day to make sure every eligible voter can successfully cast their ballot. Election Protection has voter assistance hotlines in multiple languages to connect voters with trained legal assistance.
